Event Description

Join Anderson Alumni in Social Impact group for a family-friendly workshop at the reDiscover Center and an exclusive opportunity to learn more about this nonprofit’s commitment to fostering hands-on learning while exposing youth to sustainable practices. The engagement is designed to spark curiosity and ignite a passion for sustainability in all ages through the experience of transforming discarded materials into art, functional objects, and tools for learning. Kid-friendly activities will be tailored for ages 4-14.

As part of this engagement, we invite you to:

Participate in a Kid-Friendly Creative Workshop: Get hands-on with your family in a fun and interactive workshop led by reDiscover Center educators. The workshop will focus on Creative Cardboard Construction, with a bonus mini activity of the Tool Petting Zoo. With Creative Cardboard Construction, participants will turn their wildest imaginings into real world items made from cardboard. Cardboard is accessible, sustainable, recyclable, fun, and readily available for makers who want to continue their projects at home. Learn advanced cardboard construction techniques that can be brought home to generate hours of hands-on STEAM fun with just the content of your recycling bin. Families will make a project to take home, such as a costume, puppet, sculpture, or invention. As a bonus, get up close and personal with power tools by meeting the woodworking, sewing, crafting, and digital fabrication tools available at reDiscover Center Mid City.

Discuss Sustainability and Local Impact with reDiscover Leadership: As kids play and explore, parents will have the opportunity to connect with fellow alumni and hear from reDiscover Center's Executive Director about their mission, innovative programs, and the impact they're making on our community and environment. Learn about sustainability practices and explore innovative ways to reduce our environmental impact at the household level.

Please Note: Space is limited and registration is required for both adults and children by Friday, July 19. The ticket includes the workshop, fees for materials and light snacks. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
