Howard and Irene Levine Affordable Housing Development Program (LAHDP)
The UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate will host its seventh annual Howard and Irene Levine Affordable Housing Development Program (LAHDP) in 2024. LAHDP is an accelerated university-level educational training program designed to provide professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to develop affordable housing. Affordable housing development is a highly specialized sector, requiring specific knowledge and expertise in the areas of entitlement, public-private funding sources, tax-credits, capital structures, design, and project management. Drawing on the success of the Ziman Center's existing affordable housing curriculum, LAHDP cohort will receive instruction from leading UCLA faculty and affiliated professionals utilizing proven teaching methodologies and materials.

Who Should Attend
LAHDP was created for entry-level affordable housing professionals, other professionals wishing to enter the affordable housing field, and professionals providing support services to such development projects.
The 2024 program will consist of 42 participants who will be selected through an admissions application review process. Participants will be drawn from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The cohort will be selected from diverse sectors in order to enrich the learning experience and foster meaningful networks. LAHDP seeks to have a positive impact on not only participants, but the organizations they represent.
In addition to building a skill set and a network, LAHDP graduates will have access to UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate programs and events. This includes regular and ongoing programming of the Howard and Irene Levine Program in Housing and Social Responsibility, of which LAHDP is a subset program.
Fees and Application
The Ziman Center's Levine Affordable Housing Development Program is made possible by a generous gift from Howard and Irene Levine. The program has been significantly subsidized to allow access to all individuals and organizations. The tuition fee covers registration, instruction, materials, daily meals (Continental breakfast, lunch, light afternoon snacks and beverages, and scheduled dinners), daily campus parking, and networking and speaker sessions. Personal travel and local lodging expenses are not included, but the Ziman Center will provide a list of on-campus and nearby hotel options with available UC rates for participants seeking lodging.
$1,500 Private Sector
$850 Public Sector and Nonprofit
We are pleased to announce that the Ziman Center will offer two full tuition fee scholarships to attend LAHDP in 2024. The scholarships are named in honor of Thomas L. Safran, an illustrious leader in the affordable housing industry in Southern California and a generous supporter of the Ziman Center. The LAHDP Scholarship Committee will select the recipients directly as part of the admissions process and upon finalization of this year’s cohort.
